Since 2005, our club strives to promote participation in rugby by traditionally underrepresented groups, including gay/bi men and trans people. We provide an inclusive environment in which members of diverse communities can learn the laws and practice of rugby and have the opportunity to compete at local, regional, national and international venues. Mayhem Rugby develops the sport of rugby for all regardless of their age, gender, or sexuality to reduce barriers and create a more inclusive sport for all.

Mayhem Rugby is a member of International Gay Rugby. We primarily play rugby with other members of IGR and local non-IGR teams. We compete in the biennial Mark Kendall Bingham Memorial Tournament, or Bingham Cup. Minneapolis hosted the Bingham Cup in 2010. In 2024, the Bingham Cup took place in Rome. In 2026, the next Bingham Cup will take place in Brisbane, Australia.

Mayhem Rugby is active year round. No prior rugby or sport experience is required to join. We gladly welcome beginners and love teaching them how to play! Contact us for more info.

Memberships

We have two membership levels for those who want to be part of the club and a fan club for those who want to stay up-to-date on all things Mayhem! Our club is a friendly, welcoming, and safe environment for those looking for community. The club is active year round so that we can maintain our strong bond and sense of community. Player Level

This is a seasonal membership (fall & spring) that's perfect for those who want to get in on the action! All levels of experience are welcome and we love to teach those who have no prior experience playing rugby! Matches are always on Saturdays, and home matches are typically at the Eagan Community Center rugby fields. For away matches, the Team will book hotel rooms for players and help cover part of the cost. Players often car pool to reduce travel expenses. Away matches have included: * Madison, WI * Milwaukee, WI * Chicago, IL * NORAM (North American Cup) * The Bingham Cup (International biennial Cup) Mayhem practices twice a week during the fall & spring seasons. During winter, the team hosts fitness practices. Players are also encouraged participate in the events listed under Social Membership.

Social Membership

This is a laidback, annual membership that's perfect for those who want to join in on the fun but don't want the full commitment of playing. Social members can participate in all our events like: Team Bonding Activities: * Cabin retreat * Movie nights * River tubing * Polar Plunge * Pride nights with other Minnesota sports teams * And much more! Fundraising & Recruiting: * Pride booths (Twin Cities Pride & suburbs) * Walking in the Twin Cities Pride Parade * Miss Mayhem Drag Show * Car Wash * Themed Beer Busts Matches & practices: * Join Mayhem for social meet ups with other teams * Help with set up & running matches * After practice socials (dinner & drinks) * Practice - cannot participate in contact, but can do fitness portion or help with misc. tasks.

Miss Mayhem Annual Drag Show fundraiser! We will be serving it up at The Saloon on Saturday, February 28th at 5:00pm! More details on this year's queens will be shared closer to the event on our social media! We will have a beer bust and Jell-o shots. You can tip the queens via cash or the team's Venmo. These practices are Monday evenings from 6:30 - 8:30, and they are indoors at Bryn Mawr Elementary School in Minneapolis. Bring athletic clothes, shoes, and a water bottle. What should I bring to my first practice?

You should bring/wear athletic clothes, running shoes (cleats if you already have them), and a water bottle.

Coaches will help you figure out the proper type of cleats, shorts, mouth guard, and socks (for matches). So, it is best if you wait to purchase these items until you have met with a coach first.

What is the best option if I'm not sure I want to join?

If you are unsure if you want to join, we recommend watching one of our practices or just participating in the fitness portion. We are a welcoming and friendly community who loves showing new people the game of rugby.

Other options, if you don't want to play rugby, are to become a social member or join our fan club. We understand that rugby isn't for everyone, but we still love our social members and fans!

What is IGR (International Gay Rugby)?

IGR is International Gay Rugby – the global membership organisation for LGBT and inclusive rugby clubs. They are a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, registered in England and Wales, and have 84 member clubs in 20 rugby nations across 5 continents.

What is the Bingham Cup?

Bingham Cup is a biennial international gay rugby union tournament named in honor of Mark Kendall Bingham, a rugby player and a hero of United Airlines Flight 93 on September 11, 2001. Mark Bingham was openly gay and played rugby for the San Francisco Fog and the Gotham Knights, embodying the values of inclusivity and diversity in the sport.
